Holly Lo, CPM and Julie Elker, CPM Named “CPM Candidate of the Year”

Holly Lo, CPM Julie Elker, CPM Holly A. Lo, CPM was named “CPM Candidate of the Year 2009” for her amazing journey to becoming a Certified Property Manager. She was able to complete the entire process within 10 months by traveling all over the country to complete the required courses. Between her hectic schedules of home life, being a mom, traveling between 17 properties in 5 states for her regular job, attending IREM chapter meetings and trying to fit in time to study, this is what made her journey so exciting and one to remember. “It was a real honor to be given this award. I can’t say enough about IREM and the benefits of being a part of it” Since obtaining her CPM status, she has dove head first into her chapter and is a very active member by participating in community charitable events such as Habitat for Humanity along with a few others and regularly attends the monthly meetings. She has also decided to undertake the role as an executive board member for Columbus Chapter 42 and was inducted as Vice President of Membership Services for 2010. “I love the networking and all the benefits of meeting so many different people in the industry.” In December she also obtained her Ohio Real Estate License. Holly has a total of 9 years experience in property management. She began the first 5 years of her career in residential and then made the transition over to commercial retail. “I actually fell into property management through a friend 9 years ago and ended up loving it! I never looked back and decided that property management was the career path I wanted to take in my life.” In her spare time she enjoys coaching her son’s soccer team, traveling, watching college football, shopping with friends and just spending time at home with Brian and their 3 kids.

Golf Committee Named “Committee of the Year”

Golf Committee This year President Shelley Walzak introduced a new award category, Committee of the Year award. The Board had has some hard decisions to make as there where many good nominees for this new award. In the end it was the Gold Outing Committee that won the votes of the board members and for good reason. This committee started meetings in January for an event in September, meeting monthly to begin putting together all the moving parts of this event. From picking a venue, with great success getting the OSU Gray Course, securing auction items, including signed football items from Coach Tressel, getting prizes, signs, hole sponsors and of course most importantly…golfers.

With the tough economic times in 2009 the golf outing was considered an event that may need to be eliminated this year but because of all the hard work of this committee and the commitment of our members, friends and associates we were able to have a very successful event, receiving approximately $4300 dollars in proceeds which was split with the "The IREM Foundation Restrictive Fund" which is used here locally for scholarship opportunities to students in the Columbus area. I would like to thank and congratulate this committee comprised of Co-Chairs Lori Tillis and Ben Pesich and committee members Eric Bloc, Jerry Althouse and Doug Dempsey.

Chapter Hosted BackPack Collection Event Along with an IYP Event

Backpack Drive event Take Me Out To the Ballgame

Thursday night, August 13, 2009 the Columbus Chapter hosted the annual IYP (IREM Young Professionals) and Backpack Drive event. The evening began with 30 IREM members, friends and guests enjoying appetizers and drinks at the Garage Bar in the Arena District. At the Garage Bar, the attendees donated more than 50 filled backpacks with school supplies. We then headed to the Huntington Park to attend the Clippers Game. Over 9,000 + fans packed the park to watch our home team defeat the Indianapolis Indians 7-6. As part of the fun at the park, the Sugardale Hot Dog race was yet another exciting event, with Mustard taking the lead and winning the night’s race.

Mike Ellis, CPM, Vice President of Membership Services and Lori Tillis, CPM delivered the backpacks to the Franklin County Children’s Services on August 14, 2009. The estimated value of the backpacks and supplies was $1,500 which is more than we donated last year.

Thank you to all that participated in this GREAT event.

Chapter Sponsored Another Successful Toys for Tots Auction

The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to assist the U. S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas. The IREM Columbus Chapter 42 was able to help with this mission by donating over $3,780 for the local Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

The annual event was held on November 19, 2009 during the Chapter’s regular scheduled lunch meeting. This year’s event was held at the Confluence Park with 76 attendees. Greg Belhorn of Belhorn Associates, Inc. graciously volunteered as our auctioneer.

The Toys for Tots Committee would like to thank everyone that participated, by donating an item, buying an item or making a cash donation. We realize that this year has been especially difficult due to the economy, but we all can be proud that we helped many children have a brighter Christmas season.
